Black Hat 2016 USA Keynote

Keynote: Dan Kaminsky; Wednesday, August 3, 2016

Topic: The Hidden Architecture of Our Time: Why This Internet Worked, How We Could Lose It & the Role Hackers Play

Keynote Summary: The Internet of today was not our first attempt at making a global data network that spanned the globe -- it was just the first one that worked. In this keynote, Kaminsky will guide the security-savvy Black Hat community through the changes critical to the Internet's survival. Kaminsky will dive into the value and future of cryptography, open software and networks, the hacker community as a force for measurable good, and infrastructure like DNS. He will also look into the government's role in guiding research priorities that are not currently being addressed. In order to better the Internet (and help it survive), we must first understand how it truly works.

"Dan is a great defender of the Internet," said White Ops Co-founder and CEO Michael Tiffany. "Good intentions are not good enough when it comes to security. Dan's diligent work reminds us that action is required now to secure the future of the Internet."

Dan Kaminsky is an internationally respected cryptographer who has spent almost two decades protecting the Internet. He is one of the seven "key shareholders" able to restore the Internet's Domain Name System if necessary. Dan is known for his work in finding a core flaw in the Internet, and then leading the charge to repair it. He is an invited expert to the W3C, the guiding organization for the Web. Kaminsky is a creator of White Ops technology, the world's first systematic, massively scalable, continuous anti-fraud solution for accurately isolating and eliminating bot-infected traffic.
